If you’ve reached the Sacred Arbor in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you might notice that this is the home of the Elves and that YOU CAN’T UNDERSTAND A THING THEY ARE SAYING! Yes, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has cleverly put some real-life problems when dealing with people from different countries or nations: language barriers. Putting in this “problem” with the Elves and their Elven Language; also known as Elvish, is such a great feature and makes us wonder how to learn Elven Language.

What are Elves?
Elves are a new addition race to the world of Dragon’s Dogma along with Dwarves and Beastrens, but they are the only ones who seemingly have an original language of their own. As such, you will not understand the Elves when you first speak with them. Unless, of course, you have someone who knows how to speak Elvish.
If you first arrived at Sacred Arbor through the A Trial of Archery quest by Glyndwr, you will learn that bringing along an Elf will let you understand what the Elves in the Sacred Arbor are saying. However, Elves are not a race Pawns come along with.
This should be noticeable right from the start as the character customization of Dragon’s Dogma 2 only features Humans and Beastrens. Elves also cannot be recruited as companions unless they are required in a quest such as Glyndwr in the A Trial of Archery and Gift of the Bow sidequests.
How do you Learn ElvisH? How to Learn Elven Language?
The good news? There is a way to learn the Elven Language. The bad news? You can’t learn it. Yes. You, the Arisen, can never learn Elvish. Instead, Dragon’s Dogma 2 allows your Pawns to learn the language of the Elves which is why you may notice that some Pawns you can borrow will tell you that they can understand Elvish.

How do you let your Pawns learn Elven Language?
Your Main Pawn will need to acquire the Woodland Wordsmith specialization, which can be learned by using a Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome.
Where can I get a Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome? How to Get The Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome?
To obtain a Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome, you’ll need to befriend an Elf in the Sacred Arbor by raising your affinity with them. You can achieve this by giving gifts to the Elf of your choice for three consecutive days.
Giving at least three Bunch of Flowers over the course of three days should suffice to raise the Elf’s affinity to the point where they will offer you a Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome. If they don’t give you the tome initially, you can try resting on a bench or sleeping in a bed before speaking to them again. It’s possible to be unlucky and choose an Elf that doesn’t give any items in return, as reported by some users, but this should be a rare occurrence.
Once you’ve given an elf a gift for three consecutive days, they will immediately talk to you after the last gift and give you the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome.
Afterward, simply use the Woodland Wordsmith’s Tome and your Pawn can translate Elvish to regular Human language! Feel free to speak to Elves in the Sacred Arbor.
Might be a useful tip, befriend the shopkeeper.
Since befriending and raising the affinity of shopkeepers provide discounts when buying items from them, it is very useful to befriend the shopkeepers in the Sacred Arbor. This lets you get items from them with 5% off, at least.
Learning Elven language; Elvish, is not a requirement and you can actually finish the game without your Pawn having this specialization. Still, it’s pretty fun to walk around Sacred Arbor knowing you belong and can understand the words directed at you!
