Here are five games I tried in June. They’re all pretty good!

Chasing the Unseen

I had fun playing Chasing The Unseen’s Demo on stream, I think there are alot of good things the demo had going on.

The game featured an amazing world described by its developers as “abstract” and “filled with colossal creatures.” Unfortunately, the demo only features one stage and one colossal creature. Say hi to him for me.

I personally named him Octogod. He seems nice.

Anyway, the game mainly involves platforming mechanics surprisingly similar to that of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

You will run, jump, climb, and glide over different places to get to your destination. You may also do these on the colossal monsters, and is actually integral to the gameplay as certain areas can only be accessed with their help.

The demo is only one stage and takes about around 10 to 15 minutes to finish.

Regardless, it managed to capture my attention all throughout the game and amaze me with what it teased me.

If they want to make a silent protagonist with an ambiguous story, or tell the story through subtle character interactions, NPC dialogues, and hints, I would be so down for that.

If they want something completely devoid of characters at all, and just a completely surreal and experiential adventure, I would love to play that too.

I will look into it more once it is released, but in the meantime, check them out on Steam or Twitter. Alternatively, you can find my playthrough on my YouTube channel.

Greedventory

Greedventory pleasantly surprised me with its unique blend of genres. Despite expecting a typical RPG side-scrolling action-adventure game, the (kinda) pixel art style added a refreshing twist.

Combining elements of action RPGs and point-and-click adventures reminiscent of Return to Monkey Island, Greedventory offers a gameplay experience that stands out. Unlike traditional platformers, it focuses on linear side-scrolling similar to Cuphead and Shovel Knight, but without the platforming challenges.

The developers at BlackTowerCrew truly exceeded my expectations and I can’t help but appreciate their creativity.

I must admit, there was a moment when I encountered a halfling in a jar that caught me off guard. It added a quirky and enjoyable element to the game.

Overall, Greedventory delivers a delightful and unexpected experience that fans of action RPGs and point-and-click adventures will thoroughly enjoy.

The Shore

The Shore on Steam

I am extremely weak to horror games, and I hate puzzles.

The Shore managed to provide me with a surreal and enjoyable experience. The game expertly combines jumpscares, tension-building moments, mysterious expositions, and Lovecraftian references to create a captivating atmosphere.

Although I struggled with the horror elements and puzzle-solving, I persisted and completed The Shore.

In terms of its concept and mechanics, I would liken it to games like Amnesia or Scorn. The central theme of Lovecraftian horror in The Shore resonated with me, as I’m a fan of that genre.

Visually, The Shore excelled, and I found myself constantly intrigued by the characters and locations encountered throughout the game. While I may have missed some of the deeper lore and references in-game, I believe that Lovecraft enthusiasts would particularly appreciate the amount of detail and “easter eggs” put in by the developers.

Despite my initial reservations, The Shore managed to deliver an enjoyable and surreal experience that I thoroughly savored.

Gun Jam

Gun Jam, an FPS-Rhythm game, presents an interesting blend of Doom-style action with elements reminiscent of O2Jam or DJ Max. It places you in an arena where you have to survive waves of enemies until the music ends.

However, the execution falls short in several aspects, making it a rather average experience overall.

Despite its visually appealing graphics, adrenaline-pumping music, and decent combat mechanics, Gun Jam fails to create a captivating and addicting gameplay experience.

This is my experience, at least. I still encourage you to give it a try and form your own opinion as there are positive reviews out there, indicating that some players have found enjoyment in the game.

Wizard With A Gun

Wizard with a Gun initially caught my attention with a cute meme tweet shared by the developers. Its charming art style and whimsical fusion of wizards and guns intrigued me a lot.

While I did enjoy playing the game, I must admit that it doesn’t necessarily fit with my personal preferences. I rarely enjoy base-building games, but this is entirely subjective.

Don’t get me wrong, I still found it to be extremely fun. I can still objectively acknowledge the game’s polish and the amount of content it delivers.

I just don’t find myself playing it alone in the future. Nevertheless, I genuinely hope for the developers’ success.

Based on my experience with the Demo, Wizard with a Gun deserves recognition and has the potential to cultivate a dedicated fanbase much like Don’t Starve Together.
