My partner, Chari, and I played Far Cry New Dawn off-stream and in our own times. The coop experience was pretty solid and the mayhem we caused was very much worth it.

While the story felt weak in comparison to its siblings in the franchise, Far Cry New Dawn is still a recommendable coop game for those who want to shoot guns, explore the wilderness, face wild animals, or go treasure hunting.

Below, I have listed down five things I loved about Far Cry New Dawn.

Graphics and World Design

Unlike most games set in a post-apocalyptic world, Far Cry New Dawn stands out with its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant environments, and intricately designed settlements.

Every time Chari and I boot up Far Cry New Dawn, we always have a moment where we pause and admire its world.

It is a true work of art.

The attention to detail in the design of the world is truly remarkable, and it’s clear that the development team put a lot of effort into making the game’s setting feel believable and immersive.

At times, we would just be riding in a broken-down vehicle and traveling to a mission waypoint then I’d interrupt her relaxation by admiring the distant horizon.

Dynamic and Endless Content

Tied together with Far Cry New Dawn’s world and environment, multiple quests and random encounters are scattered throughout the map.

On your way to one mission, you often find yourself sidetracked by a random civilian encounter or an intriguing landmark.

Some of these diversions often lead to intense gun battles reminiscent of Borderlands, thrilling mini adventures like those in Uncharted, or scavenger hunts similar to those in Tomb Raider.

One of our favorite side missions was a random treasure hunt found on a destroyed bridge where Chari and I had to repeatedly swing across each hook point.

Needless to say, it was pretty cool.

Far Cry 5 Tie-Ins

Even though I have never played Far Cry 5, it was pretty fun looking at characters and recognizing some of their faces from random trailers and clips I have seen online of both games.

The person I recognized the most was most definitely Joseph Seed, so I went down a rabbit hole and just got hooked into it.

For those who have played Far Cry 5 or are interested in playing it, Far Cry New Dawn is not a complete standalone sequel nor is it separate from the franchise as a whole.

Smooth Mechanics

Finally, Far Cry New Dawn delivers one of the smoothest first-person gameplay relative to what it is trying to the kind of content it brings.

If I had to imagine another first-person open world game that focuses on dynamic movement and combat, then there would only be Dying Light and Cyberpunk 2077.

Regardless, “Smooth mechanics” is just my catch-all term for almost everything that about the combat and movement.

The skill progression, buddy mechanics, and everything else also seam well but these are more quality-of-life additions that cannot be appreciated if the main first-person experience is not as polished as it is.

Maybe this is actually a downgrade from previous Far Cry games but, my last Far Cry experience was back in 2009 and my memory has been a bit hazy.

A Short but Excellent Adventure Coop Experience

Far Cry New Dawn is perfect for gamers who want to dip their toes in the Far Cry Franchise.

Even better, the coop experience is excellent for anyone who want to try Far Cry out with a friend or partner.

With the unique vibrant post-apocalyptic setting, intriguing side missions, and smooth mechanics, Far Cry New Dawn is a must-play for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
