A New Godsway is a main quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 that comes right after Convergence. The quest starts right after the cutscene that plays at the end of the Convergence. You start in the Seafloor Shrine and are tasked to meet with Ambrosius in Bakbattahl.
A New Godsway walkthrough

After speaking with Rothias during the quest Convergence, control of the Arisen is given back to you.
The quest Convergence ends here and A New Godsway immediately starts and your objective is to deliver the blade, called the Godsbane, to Ambrosius.
Ambrosius can be found in Bakbattahl, specifically in the Forbidden Magick Research Lab.
First things first, you need to get out of the Seafloor Shrine.
You can exit the Seafloor Shrine by backtracking through Stormwind Cave and exiting to Harve Village.
The more sensible and quicker option to get to Ambrosius, on the other hand, is by proceeding up the staircase behind Rothais’ throne. Walk up the stairs behind Rothais’ throne and move forward until you see a crack in the wall.
Pass through the cracked wall where you find a room with a small platform lit up by blue lights. A noticeable hand is reaching out from the water and a spiral can be seen in the middle of the floor.
Approach the platform and interact with it. Your character will then use the Godsbane to power it, and the platform turns into an elevator, bringing you to the top of the shrine.
Once you reach the top, find a crack in the wall again to walk through.
Search for the crack in the wall, then climb your way out. Eventually, you will reach an intersection. Go right to find a small cavern structure with a chest at the end; go left, and you will find a series of jail cells.
The left path leads to the exit; just move past the series of jail cells until you reach a staircase leading up. Eventually, you will find yourself in the Seafloor Shrine – Sacred Grounds.
Deliver the Godsbane to Ambrosius.
Once at the surface, going left leads to a body of water, while going right leads to a hallway of sorts.
You can search the area for loot, but the way to Bakbattahl is through the end of the hallway, up the stairs and left, then in the room with the staircase leading up. Go up the stairs, and there is only one way out at the top leading you to a place similar to the top of a castle wall.
Keep moving forward until you reach the end, a room with a chest containing the Stargazer’s Garb. Go out the window, and you will see a land bridge leading to Battahl.
The end of the land bridge leads to where you first find Ambrosius, the Oltah’Battahl Coastline. Jump off the little stone platform with the broken carriage below and speak to the Beastren mage at the shore. He will tell you that Ambrosius went back to his lab and that he is still accepting blue shards you may find.
You learned the Ambrosius returned to his lab.
Back in Bakbattahl, you will need to gain access to the Forbidden Magick Research Lab.
There are three ways to get into the Forbidden Magick Research Lab: the Bakbattahl Gaol, the entrance past the Residential Ward, and the Flamebearer Palace Prayer Hall.
The Flamebearer Palace entrance to the Forbidden Magick Research Lab is guarded and will require a disguise to pass through, so we don’t recommend going through there.
Instead, use the Bakbattahl Gaol or the entrance past the Residential Ward. Both of these entrances are not guarded, and you can freely enter the Forbidden Magick Research Lab.
Bakbattahl Gaol Entrance
The Bakbattahl Jail entrance is found inside the Bakbattahl Gaol. Walk inside the jail and go the end of the left hallway. The last room on the leftside should have an open wall leading to a tunnel into the Forbidden Magick Research Lab.
Residential Ward Entrance
Right before Bakbattahl Gaol and past the Residential Ward, you will see a short bridge leading to a building. This is the back entrance of the Forbidden Magick Research Lab where you can freely walking in unchecked by any guards.
Deliver the Godsbane to Ambrosius.
Once you are inside the Forbidden Magick Research Lab, go the Basement Floor 1 where a small corpse of dragon can be seen in the middle of the room. Find Laboratorium – Workshop #1 and go in it to talk to Ambrosius. There should be stairs beside the room.
Deliver the Dulled Godsbane Blade to Ambrosius and he is enamored at the item. However, he will need Wyrmslife Crystals to further strengthen the artifact.
Collect Wyrmslife Crystals for Ambrosius.
Ambrosius requires a minimum of 15 Wyrmslife Crystals to restore the latent potential of the Dulled Godsbane Blade. These crystals are exclusively obtainable from Drakes and Lesser Dragons, which can be encountered throughout Vermund and Battahl.
If you require assistance in locating areas where Drakes and Lesser Dragons are present, refer to the following list:
Drake and lesser Dragon Locations
- Vermund
- Northern Harve Ruins
- East of Strange Corridor
- Melve (Readvent of Calamity)
- Vernworth (Raid)
- South of Frightful Hollow
- Ancient Battleground (Does not Respawn)
- North of Guerco Cavern
- Battahl
- South of Reverent Shrine
- Southeast of Shutram Falls
- Dragonsbreath Tower
- North of Volcanic Island Camp (Shoreline)
Once you have 15 Wyrmlife Crystals, deliver them to Ambrosius, and he will make quick work of the Godsbane.
Returning to Ambrosius after a day triggers a cutscene where he is deeply engrossed in his work, the Empowered Godsbane Blade. He plans to deliver the Empowered Godsbane Blade to Phaseus himself but is intercepted by the Pathfinder. The Pathfinder uses magic to manipulate Ambrosius into giving you the Empowered Godsbane Blade.
After receiving the Empowered Godsbane Blade from Ambrosius, the Pathfinder urges you to take it to the Moonglint Tower on the Volcanic Island. The quest A New Godsway concludes, rewarding you with a Wakestone, and The Guardian Gigantus quest begins immediately.
