In Dragon’s Wake walkthrough

Dragon's Dogma 2 In Dragon's Wake Heading to Melve

Once you’ve rested at the Borderwatch Lounge, you can now set off to Melve for the In Dragon’s Wake quest. Simply follow the path westward of Borderwatch Outpost, and then take the path south in the triangle intersection.

Continue following the path south until you arrive at Melve.

You’ll easily spot Melve with its tower equipped with a ballista and a wooden bridge just before the entrance gate.

Once you pass through the gate, the mysterious voice that addressed your Arisen during the introductory cutscene will briefly return.

Proceed further into Melve by taking the left path, and you’ll suddenly find yourself in excruciating pain as the mysterious voice speaks again. You kneel down, writhing in agony, and just as you’re about to pass out, a woman witnesses your distress.

Finally, you pass out, and the screen fades to black. From the darkness, the face of a dragon shows up and you gain control of a footsoldier.

Dragon's Dogma 2 In Dragon's Wake Ulrika fighting the Dragon

You and other footsoldiers attempt to fight the dragon, only for the combat to get cut short as a cutscene plays out. In the scene, the same woman from before shoots arrows at the dragon.

The camera pans to the footsoldier you were controlling and reveals that it is your player character. You attack the dragon once again to divert its attention away from the woman.

However, you are met with a vicious fire breath that burns you severely.

Miraculously, you barely stay alive, but the dragon, recognizing your act of heroism, takes your heart and marks you as an Arisen.

The entire dragon sequence turns out to be a flashback, and you wake up in a house with the same woman from before. She introduces herself as Ulrika, and thanks you for saving her in the past.

As it turns out, the people in Vernworth, the capital city of Vermund where the royal palace is found, took you right after becoming an Arisen, and somehow you were thrown into the Excavation Site, leading to the entire introductory sequence until now.

Dragon's Dogma 2 In Dragon's Wake Borderwatch asking for the Arisen

Your conversation with Ulrika is cut short as a couple of Vermundian knights knock on the house’s door trying to find you, one claiming to be Arisen. Just like before, the Vermundian knights want to bring you to Vernworth to confirm your identity as an Arisen.

But before that, you are told to talk to Lennart at the inn before departing to Vernworth. The next main story quest actually starts right here, and you can proceed to Vernworth immediately.

However, we advise that you complete the current quest by speaking to Lennart.

Proceed to Tristan’s Inn to talk to Lennart, who thanks you for saving Ulrika and informs you about Vocations You can ask Lennart more about Vocations and also talk to the person at the counter to change/equip vocation skills or change vocations.

Once you’re done with your business here, step outside the inn to be met by Dahlia, who tells you to speak to Gregor at Melve’s entrance. Make your way to the gate entrance by following Dahlia and speak to Gregor.

Dragon's Dogma 2 In Dragon's Wake Gregor asking you to travel with him to Vernworth via Oxcart
Gregor asking you to travel with him to Vernworth via Oxcart

Here, Gregor asks you to accompany him to Vernworth. You can choose to (1) pause your travels to Vernworth to explore Northern Vermund, (2) go to Vernworth on your own, or (3) agree to travel with him which will eventually lead to fast traveling via Oxcart.

If you decide to travel alongside Gregor, you’ll need to stick with him and his crew as you make your way to a campsite east of Melve. Along the journey, you’ll need to help them by fighting off any enemies that cross your path.

As you travel, you’ll come across the Borderland Campground, where there’s a convenient fire pit nearby if you need to take a break. Resting and making camp here will also include your non-Pawn companions.

Dragon's Dogma 2 In Dragon's Wake Cyclops River

Continuing onwards from the campsite, you’ll need to cross a bridge.

Keep moving forward until you encounter a landslide that blocks your path. Navigate through the area, dealing with any monsters that try to ambush you.

Eventually, you and Gregor will discover that the road to Vernworth is blocked. A Cyclops will appear from behind the blockade and must be dealt with to continue.

To defeat the Cyclops, you can break a stack of stones blocking the river, unleashing a rush of water that can knock the Cyclops down. If successful, the Cyclops will fall down and be vulnerable to attacks.

After the battle, you’ll find an Oxcart waiting for you and Gregor. He’ll then ask you once more if you want to join him on the journey. Choosing to travel with Gregor means you’ll swiftly reach Vernworth via Oxcart.

Regardless of your decision, the quest concludes once you arrive at Vernworth.
