Dulled Steel, Cold Forge is a side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The quest begins when you talk to a Vermundian knight at the Palace Grounds in Vernworth after completing Seat of the Sovran.

Dulled Steel, Cold Forge Walkthrough

After completing the Seat of the Sovran quest, head to the Palace Grounds in Vernworth and find a knight named Roman. Speaking with Roman, he will tell you that he was tasked with a certain sword and intends to give it to you. However, he cannot divulge any further information and asks that you follow him.

At the fountain garden, Roman shows you the Regalia Sword, one of the kingdom’s treasures. He has stolen it from the masquerade hall and wants to restore it to its former glory. The Regalia Sword is a ceremonial sword wielded by previous Vermundian rulers. However, Disa’s lack of respect for tradition has left the sword dulled and fractured.

Roman then asks you to restore it to “its former splendor,” and you receive the item Dulled Regalia Sword.

Dulled Steel, Cold Forge Walkthrough Venworth Smithy

Find someone to repair the dulled regalia sword.

Go to the blacksmith (Roderick’s Smithy in Vernworth) to ask about restoring the Dulled Regalia Sword. Deliver it to Roderick, who says that it is almost impossible to restore it. Instead, he suggests you ask a dwarf in Battahl to restore it.

The dwarf in question here is the Dwarven Blacksmith, Brokkr.

You learned of a Dwarven Blacksmith in Battahl.

Roderick returns the Dulled Regalia Sword, and now you have to go to Bakbattahl and find Brokkr in Brokkr’s Smithy.

When you reach Brokkr’s Smith, find the Dwarf named Brokkr. He will be impressed with the Regalia Sword but will turn down your request for restoration as he is now retired.

Dulled Steel, Cold Forge Walkthrough Brokkr's Smithy

You spoke with Brokkr

Try to leave Brokkr’s Smithy, and Sara, Brokkr’s assistant, will stop you and say that she overheard your conversation. She explains that Brokkr has been in a bad mood due to the forge being cut off from its fuel source. Brokkr interrupts your conversation and says that he will go to the tavern.

Wait for Brokkr to leave the smithy and follow Sara to the inner room. She tells you that the source of fuel was made from glimmercoal found in a nearby cavern. However, monsters have settled in the cavern, so no one can go in there anymore. Brokkr seems to be too proud to ask for help, so now it is up to Sara to find a solution.

Sara asks you for help mining up some glimmercoal and describes it as an ore that emits a pale light. She says it can be found in a place called the Digger’s Ruins.

You spoke with Sara / Find Fifteen or more pieces of Glimmercoal

Go to the marked location, which is the Digger’s Ruins, located south from Bakbattahl.

Inside the Digger’s Ruins is a mine filled with green light. You will find ore deposits you can examine. Glimmercoal can be seen glowing every now and then, emitting a pale green light. Some ores that you can pick up will not emit light; these are called Glimmercoal instead. Turning off your lantern will make the Glimmercoals light up, but coming too close with a light source will cause them not to emit light. Pick up fifteen pieces of Glimmercoal and return to Sara. You will encounter Slimes and Hobgoblins here, so be prepared to fight.

Dulled Steel, Cold Forge Walkthrough Deliver Glimmercoal to Sara

Deliver the Glimmercoal to Sara

Once you have at least fifteen Glimmercoal, return to Sara and deliver the items to her.

Returning to Sara and delivering the Glimmercoal makes her ecstatic with the prospects of getting Brokkr to smith again. However, Brokkr is disappointed and still refuses to restore the Dulled Regalia Sword. Sara apologizes and instead suggests that she gives it a go at restoring the sword.

Give the Dulled Regalia Sword to Sara, and the quest Dulled Steel, Cold Forge ends.
