Ordeals of a New Recruit is a side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. It follows a Vermundian knight named Accardo, who has been tasked with fighting harpies. Accardio’s friends, Phill and Enrique, have requested your assistance in aiding him. This quest takes place in the northern region of Vermund, at the Borderwatch Outpost.
Ordeals of a New Recruit walkthrough
When setting out to Melve, you will encounter two guards near the main gate. One of them, named Phill, will stop you, while the other guard, named Enrique, joins the conversation.

Together, they express concern about a new recruit named Accardo, who was dispatched to deal with wandering harpies in the area.
Unable to assist Accardo themselves, they ask for your help in checking on him instead.
Please take note: This is a time-sensitive quest, and failing to complete it quick enough will result in quest failure.
A quest marker appears west of the Borderwatch Outpost on your mini-map. Follow the path leading to the marker to reach your destination quickly.
Along the way, you may encounter goblins, but they should pose no significant challenge.
Upon arrival, you find Accardo engaged in combat with a couple of harpies. This marks your first encounter with these flying enemies in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You have two options: stand your ground and fight alongside Accardo, or rescue him and retreat.

Fighting harpies can be challenging, requiring you to exploit openings in their attacks.
Thieves and Warriors should aim for when the harpies are flying low, or time their jump attacks when they are not too far out of reach. Archers and mages may find it easier to hit them from a distance with their long-ranged attacks.
A thing to look out for is when Harpies attempt to lull you to sleep with their singing, indicated by a blue or purple aura.
If you hear them singing or see the aura, swiftly interrupt their singing with an attack or retreat far away to cancel the effect. If you or any ally stay too long listening to their song, you and any ally will fall asleep. Pawns may help you wake up by approaching you, and you can do the same for them.

Harpies may also attempt to grab and lift you into the air, potentially dropping them from great heights. You must struggle to break free or risk taking fall damage or even being thrown off a cliff.
After aiding Accardo, he expresses gratitude before departing to return to the outpost. Your task now is to report back to Phill and inform him of the situation.
Once you talk to Phill, the quest Ordeals of a New Recruit is completed.
