Out of the Forest, Into the Forge is a side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. After completing The Ailing Arborheart quest, the Out of the Forest, Into the Forge quest immediately starts.
The Ailing Arborheart WALKTHROUGH
At the end of The Ailing Arborheart quest, Sara requests that you first make a nutriabh before approaching her and Brokkr again. This officially starts the quest Out of the Forest, Into the Forge.
Return to Dorieann in the Sacred Arbor to report what you have found in your search for the Gwyfencha/Scalecinder.
Approaching Dorieann, she will ask you if you’ve found the Gwyfencha. You then report your findings, and she will be surprised when you tell her that you will need a Nutriabh.
As it turns out, it is not a tasty meal and consists of rotten apples and fish.
So, she tasks you to find rotten apples and fish so she can prepare a Nutriabh.
Obtain the ingredients for nutriabh
This should be very easy as Vermund is rich with apples and fish everywhere. Just explore areas with bodies of water or defeat Saurians to get fish, then acquire apples pretty much everywhere from monsters to bushes.
Once you have apples and fish, let time pass until they rot. Once they are rotten, deliver them to Dorieann.
Deliver Ingredients to Dorieann
After delivering the required items to Dorieann, she immediately prepares the Nutriabh. She also tells you that elves live in the mountains, so they rarely have access to fish. Nutriabh is a dish first made by an elf craving fish when none were available. It is known for being disgusting and pungent, yet it is served at celebratory events. Despite being served on such occasions, Dorieann says she has never seen anyone eat Nutriabh.
The cutscene progresses further with Dorieann visibly disgusted as she stirs the pot. Eventually, the Nutriabh is finished, and she wonders how anyone could eat it. Regardless, she presents it to you and asks to accompany you to Battahl. Accepting will prompt her to give you a ferrystone, provided by Glyndwr, her brother, to make traveling back to Battahl faster.
Unfortunately, if you don’t have a portcrystal placed in Bakbattahl, you cannot use it.
Deliver the Nutriabh to Sara
Regardless of whether you choose to go to Bakbattahl on foot, by oxcart, or using a ferrystone, your destination is Sara’s Brokkr’s Smithy.
Upon arriving at Brokkr’s Smithy with Dorieann, Sara greets you and inquires about Dorieann’s identity. With some hesitation, Dorieann introduces herself, and Sara does the same. However, Brokkr is not present in the smithy, so Sara instructs you and Dorieann to follow her to a cavern where Brokkr is currently located.

Sara leads you to a cavern outside Bakbattahl near the Bakbattahl Pawn Guild.
Upon reaching the cave entrance, Sara calls out to Brokkr. He emerges from the cave and immediately notices Dorieann, an Elf. He instructs her to leave, but Sara calms Brokkr down by informing him that Dorieann has brought a Nutriabh. Dorieann presents the Nutriabh to Brokkr, who reluctantly accepts it, stating that he will dispose of it later. Sara assures you that he will take his time with the Nutriabh.
Sara then instructs you to enter the cave and search for the Gwyfencha/Scalecinder that you are trying to find.
Gather plenty of Scalecinder
The screen fades into black and returns with you and Sara in the Straggler’s cave. Simply explore every nook and cranny of the cave, destroying boxes, vases, and such to pick up Scalecinders.
Scalecinders are identifiable by their green color and powdery appearance. They should emit a light just like any other loot, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find. You can collect up to 6 Scalecinders when exploring the Straggler’s cave.
If Dorieann isn’t moving from her position, you can try carrying her deeper into the cave.
After some time, Dorieann will stop in the cave, and the screen fades into a cutscene where Sara tells you to get out of the cave.
Once outside, Dorieann asks you how many Scalecinders you found. Deliver to her at least more than two, and the quest Out of the Forest, Into the Forge ends with Dorieann running back to the Sacred Arbor with the Scalecinders.
