Short-Sighted Ambition is a side quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The quest begins when you first buy an item at Isaac’s Wares in Bakbattahl.

Short-Sighted Ambition WALKTHROUGH

There is an apothecary in Bakbattahl named Isaac’s Wares. When you first buy an item from this store, the wife of the owner will tell him that he chose the wrong item to give you. It seems like Isaac’s eyesight has become worse over time.

It started when Isaac began reading a grimoire, On Transference of Souls. The tome is believed to have the power to “summon things from beyond the rift.” He intends to use this to acquire items unique to the otherworld and sell them. All this he intends to do to bring riches to his family. He then asks you to give him a Quince to remove fatigue from his eyesight.

Seek out Ripened Quince

After your first talk with Isaac from Isaac’s Wares, the quest Short-Sighted Ambition starts. Your first quest objective is to acquire a ripened quince for him.

Quinces can be found in the wilds of Battahl. Simply gather them from the tall bushes with pear-looking fruits. They become ripened after some time passes and they are in your inventory.

Once the quince is ripened, deliver it to Isaac.

Visit isaac in a few days’ time

Let a few days pass, and Isaac will now have an eyepatch. Speak to him, and he will tell you that he has successfully read the grimoire in his belongings.

However, Isaac lost his eye in the process.

Isaac then requests that you find the second part of the grimoire. He is aware that it is in the Checkpoint Rest Town and wants you to get it for him.

Give Isaac the Fake Grimoire or Real Grimoire

The second part of the grimoire can be found in Ibrahim’s Scrap Store, which you can buy for quite a sum of gold. Once you have the On The Transference of Souls 2, you can choose to make a forgery using Ibrahim’s Services or not. If you choose to create a forgery named On the Transit of Souls, you can give it to Isaac or give him the real one. Depending on which one you give, the outcome will be different.

Give Isaac the Fake Grimoire

Returning to Isaac and giving him the fake grimoire will save him and his life. If you assumed correctly that the grimoire will lead to death due to him losing an eye on the first volume, then kudos to you!

Follow Isaac to his home after giving Isaac On the Transit of Souls 2, and he will try to cast the spell. However, the spellcasting fails because what he is using is a fake grimoire. Still, seeing his daughter and wife happy that the spell didn’t work out made him feel fine despite the failure. The whole family thanks you, and rewards you for helping them.

Give Isaac the real Grimoire

Giving the real second part of On the Transference of Souls will lead to a bad outcome. He will attempt to cast the spell using the second part of the grimoire and find sand instead. However, he will soon realize that the sand in front of him is the remains of his family.

Isaac denies what happened and simply thinks that his daughter and wife ran away. After a few days, the apothecary he owns closes down, and he disappears. The people in Bakbattahl hint that he either went mad or took his life. This will officially end the Short-Sighted Ambition quest.
