Vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are the equivalent of traditional Classes in RPGS. In total, there are 10 vocations to choose from in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Four of these are Basic Vocations obtainable at the start of the game; in Character Customization, two Advanced Vocations are unlocked in Vernworth, and four Vocations exclusive to the Arisen unlocked in various locations.
What Are Vocations?
Based on the Arisen’s vocation, the playstyle and gameplay experience will vary wildly when playing Dragon’s Dogma 2. In particular, Combat will be most affected as certain classes favor melee or ranged attacks. Certain classes also provide better mobility and vertical exploration such as Mages and Sorcerers who can briefly levitate.
Specific vocations are also unique to the Arisen, and cannot be learned by Pawns. If you’ve played the first Dragon’s Dogma, new vocations were added by Capcom and some old ones were removed. Some vocations were also adjusted, so don’t expect the same experience playing the same vocation you played in the first Dragon’s Dogma.
Vocations of the Arisen’s Pawns will also affect the gameplay experience, as fitting the Arisen’s party with a variety of Vocations will yield different results and allow for certain strengths to flourish.
Vocation Maisters are also present to help improve the Arisen’s knowledge on certain Vocations.

What are Vocation MaisterS?
Vocation Maisters are said to be “[T]hose who have mastered their vocations.” Therefore, Vocation Maisters can help the Arisen learn skills or techniques unique to their Vocation. These skills and techniques can only be obtained through the respective Vocation Maisters. So if you want to perfect being a Thief, Warrior, Mage, or any Vocation, be sure to find a Vocation Maister fit to your preferred Vocation.
The location of Vocation Maisters also vary, so you will need to explore and find them on your own.
Basic Vocations

Fighter
Photo from Capcom
“The Fighter vocation excels in melee combat, deftly wielding a sword and shield. Fighters can slice through enemy ranks and deliver powerful blows, while also using their shields to protect themselves and their allies.”
Fighter Description, Official Capcom Website
The Fighter is a starting vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 meant for those who prefer melee-ranged combat but have a balance of good offense and defense. Fighters use the Sword and Shield to cut down foes mightily yet defend when needed. Sturdy, capable, and reliable, Fighters can be relied on to take aggression from foes while their allies harm the enemy.
Fighters rely on their Strength stat and wear heavy armor to match their defensive techniques. Despite their balanced skill set, Fighters do not have the best mobility and ranged attacks. In fact, they are weakest when against flying or ranged foes.
A special ability that Fighters have that other vocations do not have is the ability to Block and Parry attacks. Blocking allows them to take hits without receiving the full brunt of damage, while Parrying lets them expose enemies by deflecting their attacks. Once an enemy attack is parried, they tend to be vulnerable against counterattacks.

Archer

“The Archer vocation specializes in long-range attacks using a bow and arrow. They perform their attacks from afar and can target enemies in high positions. In addition, they are essential in supporting the frontline. For example, by targeting enemy weaknesses, they can create opportunities for your allies to strike.”
Archer Description, Official Capcom Website
The Archer is a starting vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 that deal ranged physical damage. Equipped with a Bow, Archers are great damage dealers that favor being at a distance than fighting up close. Less balanced out than Fighters, most Archers require help from their allies to keep them off their backs. Therefore, Archers work best when there are combatants up front who can take aggression off of them.
Some skills of the Archer vocation also allow them to apply debilitation to their enemies. They have unique arrows that let them create explosions, apply poison to their enemies, and more. With the right preparation, Archers can be fearsome combatants when left alone.

“The Thief attacks with deadly speed, dealing rapid and consecutive strikes with daggers in both hands while exhibiting outstanding mobility. They quickly step away after striking, exploit openings to cling onto enemies, and inflict heavy damage. They may also steal items from NPCs and enemies.”
Thief Description, Official Capcom Website

With their speed and agility, they are tricky opponents that are capable of taking down multiple small foes or dealing absurd amount of damage against strong enemies if left unhindered. Despite the Thief vocation’s strength in speed, they are less likely to tank enemies as good as Fighters or Warriors.

“Wielding a staff, the Mage offers support to their party in various ways: from launching magick attacks, offering enchantments that bolster their party members’ weapons, to casting healing spells. The more advanced and powerful the magick is, the longer the incantation time will be. As a Mage, you will experience the strategic excitement of deftly executing your magick abilities.”
Mage Description, Official Capcom Website
The Mage vocation is a starting vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 that deals magick attacks and helps allies with buffs and healing spells. Warrior Description, Official Capcom Website
The strike that is unleashed after charging power and identifying an opening, is among the most powerful attacks of all vocations.”
The Warrior vocation is one of the two advanced vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Much like the Fighter, a Warrior is expected to take enemy aggression and help allies stay safe. The difference of a Warrior from a Fighter is that the former is much better at dealing damage with their two-handed Greatsword and Hammer.
Warriors are capable of striking enemies with their heavy weapons, staggering or knocking them down with great force. Smaller foes can also be flung far away with the mighty swings of their weapons.
An innate strength that Warriors have is their ability to resist getting off balanced or staggered, posing them as great frontline combatants like the Fighters.

Sorcerer
Photo from Capcom
“The Sorcerer is a vocation completely specialized in various magick attacks. Their magick is conjured with both hands through a large staff, and can change the tide of battle at any given opportunity. As their magick spells take longer to cast, it is key for the Sorcerer to find a safe place and determine the correct moment to strike.”
Sorcerer Description, Official Capcom Website
The Sorcerer vocation is a scholar of magick capable of casting damage-focused spells. When left alone, Sorcerers pose great threat with their strong magick that can topple down groups of enemies or large foes. Certain spells can apply different debilitations such as freezing, airborne, and paralysis.
Much like Mages, Sorcerers require time and space for their incantations. They also need to be at a distance as to not get interrupted or harmed while casting their spells. Sorcerers’ biggest difference from Mages is that they do not have healing spells to assist their party members.

Trickster

“A vocation exclusive to the Arisen, the Trickster can conjure illusions through the smoke created by its unique weapon, the Censer. Trickster Description, Official Capcom Website
The Trickster is a vocation exclusive to the Arisen in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Tricksters uses a Censer and creates smokes and illusions. A support-oriented vocation, the Trickster manipulates smoke illusions to deceive enemies and boost Pawn attacks, turning foes against each other.
Tricksters also provide buffs and enhancements. One of its spells also allow it to scout the area safely and from afar. Exploration can also be safer as one of its augments stave off enemy raids when riding oxcarts.
However, Tricksters’ complete lack of offensive skills leave its party members with the responsibility of harming enemies if not deceived. So, fitting your party with the correct vocations is extremely important.

“The Warfarer is a new vocation exclusive to the Arisen that can use every weapon, and learn different skills from each vocation. By using diverse weapons, the Warfarer can respond to any situation and create combos that cross vocational boundaries. The Warfarer’s lower base stats require them to utilize the situational strengths of different weapon types to be on par with other vocations with specialized strengths.”

The newest addition the franchise, the Warfarer is a new vocation that allows the Arisen to use weapons, armors, and skills from different vocations. At the vocation’s core, the Warfarer is the most versatile vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 as it can do multiple things at once. However, meticuluous decision making is required to master this vocation. Its ability to equip multiple items also makes it prone to carrying too much or be overweight.
